Very happy with the product

I have a host of medical issues which have gone either in or misdiagnosed for decades. Two main ones are Hyperparathyroidism and Atrophic Thyroiditis. I am now having cardiac issues which are related to one or both of those diseases. I recently had an appointment with a cardiologist and one of the questions he asked was if I snore, I have had a sleep study and have primary Restless Leg Syndrome and Periodic Limb Movement Disorder sleep apnea did not show back then, but that was years ago. Due to the fact that I also have severe heat intolerance I sleep by myself, because I need my room ice cold. I downloaded snore lab, and I in fact do snore and I am also a mouth breather. Even after having major sinus surgery I still have difficulty breathing through my nose.I have tried nasal dilators and they really did not make much of a difference. I purchased the Snoreshield and I received it yesterday. When I opened the package I was surprised by the size, I actually thought it would be much bigger. I read through the instructions and molded my guard. I wore the Snoreshield and wore it when I went to bed, and I also wore nasal dilators. It was weird, I felt like I was drooling, but, once my tongue found the right place (kind of tucked under the edge of the front of the bottom guard, I felt like I wasn’t really drooling any longer. I was actually wondering if I was going to get any sleep, but as soon as my jaw was able to relax I knew I would fall asleep. I slept soundly, and when I woke up and looked at my data to say I was shocked was an understatement. The few nights I have been using snore lab my sleep lab numbers have been between 41 and 60, with epic snoring mixed in. Hey if you are going to snore you might as well make it epic! This morning after checking my snore lab number it was a 9!!! I also wear an Oura ring and even though my HR was still down around 44 (Bradycardia from being in/mis diagnosed for decades) for most of the night I had no significant breathing issues noted.I am amazed at the difference. I will say my jaw was very uncomfortable this morning and I even took ibuprofen before bed because I had read reviews of people saying their jaw was sore. I am hoping the discomfort lessens, but in all honesty, it worth some discomfort if I can sleep well. Sleep is underrated, it is so important for your health and mental well being.

My Husband's snoring has really increased over the past few years. Both our sleep quality has really suffered due to it. I had looked at the snoring mouthpieces for a while now, and decided upon the Snoreshield due to it's simplicity and price. I will say I was skeptical that it would help us, but anything was worth a shot!

First thoughts out of the package left me with only one CON - the "upper," "lower," and adjustment markings seemed very faint and hard to read. Other than that, the fitting process was straight forward, just leave it in the factory shipped position and form to your mouth. Because it had arrived late in the afternoon, my husband did not have time to practice wear it, as the instructions say to do. He simply fit it to his mouth, left it in the factory position for the first night and off to bed we went.

FIRST NIGHT- both of us were skeptical. He said it felt a little bulky in his mouth but didn't feel horrible to wear. He did apply balm to his lips, as this was something other reviewers had mentioned helped with using the device. He is blessed to instantly fall asleep on any night, and this wearing this device did not seem to alter that. Within about 10 minutes he was sound asleep and breathing EVENLY, QUIETLY and PEACEFULLY. I eventually drifted off to sleep, wondering if the "calm" would stay or I'd be jarred awake by the midnight chainsaw breathing. I did awaken once during the night, it was so abnormally quiet. A part of my panicked thinking something had to be wrong, or he had left the room like other nights when the snoring had become so bad it woke him up as well. I was so happy to turn over and see he was blissfully sleeping in the same position he fell asleep in and his breathing was even and quiet.

FIRST MORNING - Husband reported jaw was a little sensitive, but he was expecting it to. Said he hadn't woken up feeling so rested in YEARS! He never moved, tossed or turned once during the night.

FOLLOWING DAYS - Husband still wearing religiously and jaw tenderness subsided after a few days. After a few nights at the factory setting, his breathing sounds did elevate some, so we adjusted the bottom plate forward to the 1mm mark. After this adjustment he is perfectly quiet again. We did anticipate this happening from reading other reviews. He also picked up a denture bath and tabs to give the mouthpiece a very good cleaning during the week, in addition to daily cleanings. We are both thrilled with this mouthpiece and I will be ordering a second one soon, as they only last about 6 months per manufacturer's recommendation.

Out of the box I was pretty sure this was going to be too big for my mouth as my teeth seem a little narrow compared to some other people.But after following the directions I found it fit just perfectly. Note: you should not take it apart until you have fitted it to your mouth/teeth as you want to make sure each side is in the original position. I will say that it feels a little big in my mouth but for the most part I'm able to close my lips at night and breath through my nose.Keep in mind that I've been using an double mouth-guard for a few years and the transition to a slightly bigger mouth-guard was not as severe for me as someone who has never worn a mouth guard. Now onto the results. As you can see, my snore score was 67 with my original double mouth-guard. The first night with the Snoreshield with no adjustments my snore score was 25 and the next night with it set at 5 my snore score was 18. This is quite the improvement and I plan to increase the offset slightly and see if I can get below a snore score of 10. My partner is much happier and I feel more rested and have more energy during the day.

I bought this to address teeth grinding and snoring, with the hope that it's all I would need to get restful sleep without resorting to other more expensive and invasive measures. For those familiar with nasal strips like Breathe Right, I have used that in the past and it's worked, but they're not reusable and the cost of buying more strips adds up quickly.

I also had hoped (though not expected, as it's not one of the marketed use cases) that I could wear it all day to use as a bite block / turbo for correcting my bite.

On the first point, it does the job fairly well. However, it does take getting used to. For all the self-congratulatory promotional verbage used regarding Snoreshield's new and improved slimness, I can't imagine how much worse it was with the original version; this supposed 20% slimmer model still feels pretty thick in my mouth, and I believe I have a pretty big one both literally and figuratively. Still, when I did doze off with this contraption in my facehole, it eliminated snores (according to my spouse, anyway) and also I woke up in the morning feeling pretty well rested.

On the second point, I can't say if it will or won't work as a corrective bite block, because I can't bring myself to wear it all day. However, another top review of this product reported it affecting their bite pretty severely after some extended use, so I'll edit this review if I find that happening to me as well.

The instruction pamphlet does state that if prolonged discomfort is experienced, usage of the Snoreshield should be immediately stopped followed by a consultation with a doctor or dentist. It also says this should not be used to address sleep apnea.

The Snoreshield itself is an interesting little kit. The top and bottom halves are held together with a friction fit slot, which is fairly adjustable. I have a severe overbite—about the distance of a pinky nail—and the default position works best for me. For those with normal bites or a noticable underbite, the lower half can be extended up to 10mm forward (in 1mm increments). That's very extreme though. Conversely, there is no way to extend the lower half backward from the default position, so people with very extreme overbites (more so than myself at least) might not get a comfortable fit with this.

The molding process itself was very easy, and I got it on my first try. I just microwaved a bowl of water for a minute on high, removed it, and submerged the Snoreshield in the hot water for 20 seconds. The Snoreshield kept trying to float, so I used a fork to hold it down while it heated up. There's no visible indicator for when the thing is ready to go, and the manual doesn't say how long it should stay submerged, but 20s seemed good enough.

The instructions say if you mess up you could try again up to 3 times before it starts to lose its shaping properties.

All in all I'm pretty happy with this purchase, though time will tell if it will hold up with prolonged use.
